FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Below, you'll find the most frequently asked questions regarding the re-surfacing process of vertical slats. If you have a question that isn't covered here, contact us with your question, and we will reply as soon as we can. Also, check out the "comments" to see why some people have used our re-surfacing kit.
1) I noticed some dirty areas on my paper slats, can I clean the paper with something? Yes, use a mild soap and a soft cloth, the paper slats are pretty resilient.
2) Does it matter what kind of wallpaper paste I use? No, there are several different types of wallpaper/border pastes, any brand will work just fine and any brand that says "heavy duty" is the best, but not necessary.
3) Can I use a regular paint brush instead of a foam brush? A foam brush works best because it spreads the paste out quicker and more evenly. So if a regular paint brush is used then make sure the paste is applied evenly with no streaks or clumps.
4) How important is centering the resurfacing paper slats onto the plastic slats? Centering can be an option because in all actuality there is only one exposed edge on the plastic slats that are visible at all times. If your vertical blind pulls open from left to right, then the exposed edges that are visible are on the right side of each plastic slat. And if your blind pulls open from right to left, then the exposed edges that are visible are on the left side of each plastic slat. So if you choose not to center, then make sure the exposed edges all have the same amount of plastic edge showing.(pencil lead size) Also, the slat right next to the pull wand is the only slat that both edges are visible at all times, therefore it should be centered.
5) I have textured slats that I would love to redesign, can I still use your kit? Yes, just make sure you apply a liberal amount of paste to the plastic slats, don't glob it on, just fill if the crevasses with the paste.
6) On a scale of one to five, with five being the most difficult, how difficult is this to do? Not difficult at all, this project would be rated a "two."
7) Can I put the wallpaper/border paste on the resurfacing paper slats instead of my plastic slats? No, applying the paste directly to the paper will cause the paper slats to stretch and when they dry the paper will distort the plastic slats.
8) Is it necessary to resurface my valance? No, this is optional.
9) I am very interested in purchasing your vertical blind re-design kit, because I live in an apartment with white walls and white vertical blinds and it's driving me crazy. I would love to add color to the vertical blinds, but my lease agreement does not permit any changes to the property. So I want to make sure that this kit will not damage the slats on the vertical blind...Could you please reply? "The Vertical Blind Re-Design Kit"(pat. pending)will not damage the existing plastic slats on the vertical blind what so ever. Follow the step by step instructions and check out the "tips" for applying the re-surfacing paper slats.(the "tips" are on the instruction sheet that comes with the kit)and have fun embellishing your home with color.
10) You advertise that your kit is environmentally friendly, but what about the popcorn you use for shipping, isn't that contradicting? Good point, the shipping popcorn that we use is biodegradable, so it's not just the kit that is environmentally friendly.
11) What is the exact length of the resurfacing paper slats in both the large and small kits? The length for the re-surfacing paper slats in the large kit is 82 1/2" long, and the small kit is 63" long.
